Coriander is a unique spice that can be found in our Biltong, Droewors, and Boerewors. It is also known as cilantro or Chinese parsley, it is native to the different regions of southern Europe, northern Africa and southwest Asia. It’s a soft, feathery plant with white and pink flowers,and tiny fruit. If you’re not familiar with coriander you’ve most likely consumed it at some stage having Asian cuisine. Its found in chutneys, salads and also used as garnish in Mexican salsa and guacamole. But it’s the dried coriander fruits that we use; the coriander seeds that are ground into spice that make our meat a special kind of tasty.

The seeds have a lemony citrus flavor that when crushed is described as a nutty, spicy and orange-flavored. Interestingly enough, coriander seeds are also used when brewing certain styles of beer. In particular Belgian wheat beers.

Coriander seeds provide a lower content of vitamins than the leaves do. Coriander leaves are rich in vitamin A, C and K. Whereas, the seeds provide a significant amount of dietary fiber such as calcium, selenium, iron, magnesium, and manganese. See more Health Benefits of Coriander
